I Became Serious About Painting...
...when I realized that I could use my ideas and experiences to connect with people and enrich their lives through beautiful art - It would in fact be my discipline.
As a child growing up in rural Ontario, most of my time was spent in nature artistically creating my world around me in an attempt to stay busy and happy. This free way of living directed me towards an entrepreneurial path, and in 2008 I moved West to pursue fashion design at Pacific Design Academy in Victoria, BC. With the program’s heavy emphasis on illustration, I discovered my strengths as an artist and began to create vibrant acrylic paintings. In 2010 I opened The Junction, a vintage furniture boutique where I would sell my art. Since then I have experienced all the duties that come with owning a shop, fostering my growing art career and staying centred in Victoria's vibrant cultural scene. The journey has brought many accomplishments, including a permanent rotating display in the town's most beloved breakfast joint, The Blue Fox Cafe, designing a collection of illustrations for a children’s book by renowned Canadian author, Pat Skene, and the private sale of nearly 400 original paintings.
When I create each original piece, it’s a reflection of deep love, vigor and bare expression. The greatest compliments I receive from my customers are the ones that refer to a sense of "something more" in my paintings. Rather than showcasing a static object or place, they radiate with emotion and energy that feels authentic - rooted in the present moment. Allowing myself the freedom to share my inner Self is at the centre of my practice, as I know that the most beautiful things can sprout from the roots of honesty, receptiveness and self-examination. Whether it's a beautiful BC scene, animal, or abstract, I aim to strike a balance between ease and intention, beauty and suspense, comfort and desire.
I hope you find something special in each moment...
